The Adoption Process

Our goal is to place each dog with the best home we can find based on the needs of the dog. The process starts with the family meeting our dogs at one of our adoption events and spending some time getting aquainted. We encourage the whole family to meet the dog before any aplication is submitted. If you have a dog already please bring it along as well so that they can meet on "neutral ground" and everybody can get a feeling for how they will get along.

When you find a dog that you are interested in the process starts with the on-line or printable application form. One of our adoption coordinators will review the application and call your references. If there are any areas of concern or anything that is unclear they will review their questions with you. Pet Pro Life reserves the right to decline any application that we do not believe is in the best interests of the dog.

In many cases we will suggest a "foster to adopt" be done where the prospective family takes the dog home for a brief period, typically a week, to be sure that the adoption is a good fit. This is often recommended where other dogs or a cat is already in the home and there is uncertainty on how they will interact with the new dog. It is also often a good idea when one or more family members is uncertain about the adoption for any reason.

Once the adoption application is approved and you are ready to commit to the adoption you will sign an adoption contract and pay the adoption fee. The contract basically requires that you provide the dog with an appropriate home and care and that if you can not keep the dog for any reason you give Pet Pro Life the first option of taking it back. The adoption fee requested varies depending on the dog and currently ranges betwen $150 and $300 (cash only please). All adoptions include the spay or neuter and required vaccinations being current.
